Sakaja to Open County Assembly Amid Majority Standoff.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will on Wednesday officially open the third County Assembly of Nairobi.

This follows a week-long induction of all the 123 MCAs and the appointment of the House leadership.

 

"With the Hon. Speaker of Nairobi City County Assembly as well as the House leadership after a successful induction of our MCAs, I will officially open the assembly this Wednesday at 2pm," Sakaja said on Monday.

 

It is expected that the governor will also address the House.

 

 

Last month, MCAs elected at the August polls were sworn into office after the gazettement of the first sitting by Sakaja.

 

The House is supposed to have 124 MCAs but elections are yet to be held in Utawala ward.

 

Out of the 123 MCAS, 85 are elected members while 39 are nominated.

 

UDA has 35 elected MCAs same as the ODM party. Jubilee has six, Wiper four, CCK one and three are Independents.

 

 

President William Ruto's UDA party and Raila Odinga's ODM each have 17 nominated MCAs.

 

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee has three nominated MCAs and Wiper has two.

 

 

In total, ODM and UDA have 52 MCAs each, Jubilee has nine, Wiper has six while CCK has one.

 

Last week, both United Democratic Alliance party and Azimio la Umoja claimed to be majority and named their Majority leaders and Majority Whips.

 

Azimio named Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok as Majority leader and Laini Saba MCA John Musila as his deputy.

 

Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto was named the Majority Whip while Upper Savannah MCA Elijah Stazo was named deputy minority whip.

 

UDA named Waithaka MCA Antony Kirangu as the Majority leader and South B MCA Waithera Chege as his deputy.

 

The party also named Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi as Majority Whip and Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni as his deputy.
