Gachagua gazette team to clean Nairobi River.

The government is putting in efforts to clean Nairobi River which has been neglected for long, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

 

Gachagua spoke when he met representatives of all the 25 United Nations agencies on Thursday, he said they want the rivers in the capital clean.We are trying to put up a team and next week that commission will be gazetted," he said.

"Its a huge undertaking because people have to be relocated but they have to be given an alternative source of livelihood."

The DP said the administration needs the support of the UN and UNEP for the project.He urged the UN agencies to work with the government to make the project a success.

 

"We will be asking the UN family to mobilise funds, resources and expertise to help us restore Nairobi River," he said.

 

 

The agencies under the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Kenya 2022-26 are ready to partner with the Kenya Kwanza administration in implement at least 15 programmes.

 

The programmes targets children, the youth, women, people living in Arid and semi arid areas and urban informal settlements.
