Showdown looms at the Nairobi County Assembly after President William Ruto-led UDA party named its House leadership as the majority.

In a letter written by UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina and copied to the speaker, the party named its majority leaders even as Azimio la Umoja coalition claimed its the Majority party at the Assembly.

UDA named Waithaka MCA Antony Kirangu as the Majority leader and will be deputized by South B MCA Waithera Chege.

Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi will be the Majority Whip and Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni will be his deputy.

Mlango Kubwa ward rep Susan Makungu has been nominated to seat at the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board.

"Please accord them the necessary support as they serve the county assembly. This is the party position which must be upheld," reads the letter dated October 12, 2022.

The party also named Kawangware MCA Fredrick Njogu to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) while his counterpart Jeremiah Themendu from Kayole Central will go to the Public Investment Committee (PIC).

This is as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition named Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok as the majority leader and will be deputised by Laini Saba MCA John Musila.

Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto will serve as the Majority whip and be deputised by Upper Savannah MCA Elijah Stazo.

Azimio has at least 67 MCAs while Kenya Kwanza has 53 MCAs.

Three of the MCAs are independents and Embakasi Ward is yet to elect their representative.

Nairobi County Assembly has around 23 committees inclusive of the House Business Committee which is normally chaired by the Speaker.

The primary mandate of the PAC is therefore to oversight the expenditure of public funds by Nairobi City County entities, to ensure value for money and adherence to government financial regulations and procedures.
