Chelsea press conference recap – Graham Potter on win at Milan, Tomori red, James, Mount, more.

Chelsea recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over AC Milan at San Siro to move to the top of their Champions League group with two matches to play

Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Graham Potter's post-match press conference following Chelsea's 2-0 victory over AC Milan at San Siro – a result that has put the Blues on course to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage.

Chelsea travelled to the Serie A champions in a confident mood having dispatched them 3-0 at Stamford Bridge less than a week ago. Yet with key players having returned from injury, there was an expectation that Milan would offer a far sterner test for the Blues on home turf.

That proved the case as Milan started well. However, one excellent pass from Reece James behind the hosts' defence and a well-timed run from Mason Mount changed the course of the game. Mount was pulled back by the recovery Fikayo Tomori and referee Daniel Seibert pointed to the spot.

Soft? Yes, but it was difficult to argue with the decision. However, the red card that followed for the Milan defender – a Chelsea academy graduate – was harsh and meant Milan had to play the majority of the contest with ten men. They frustration was compounded as Jorginho dispatched the penalty.

Chelsea improved as the opening 45 minutes progressed and extended their advantage in fine style. Mateo Kovacic fizzed a pass into Mount who lifted the ball over the Milan backline and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to meet the ball in stride and fire beyond Ciprian Tatarusanu.

The Blues' task for the second period was simple: see out the match. And that is what Potter's side did without too much trouble. The only frustration was that James, who has become a talismanic figure, had to limp off midway through the half. The hope will be that his injury is not serious.

Potter will deliver an update on James and will explain why Mason Mount was taken off at the interval in his post-match press conference. We are in position to get the thoughts of the Chelsea head coach and live updates will appear below.
