Arrests Made Over Poisonous Sugar Scandal
The directorate of criminal investigations (DCI) has arrested Chrispus Waithaka and five other traders in connection with the spread of contaminated sugar in Nairobi, Kajiado and Mombasa. The suspects are accused of stealing and distributing the condemned sugar, valued at Kshs. 163 million, which has caused widespread panic and health concerns among Kenyans. The six traders are expected to appear in court on Monday, May 22, where they will be charged for their alleged involvement in the sugar scandal. As prices for sugar continues to soar, authorities are cracking down on those who have contributed to the spread of poisonous sugar in the country.
