Wacucu, Wanugu and Rasta: Kenya's Most Dreaded Gangsters

Wacucu, Wanugu and Rasta: Kenya's Most Dreaded Gangsters

On June 27, 1996, the nation's second 'Most Wanted' gangster, Gerald Wambugu Munyeria, was gunned down at a trading centre, Kabati-ini Shopping Centre, Nakuru County.

The two deaths occurred 18 years apart, on the same month, and almost on the same day.

The third and fourth 'Most Wanted' gangsters, Bernard Matheri Thuo and Anthony Ngugi Kanagi, who partnered in crime with Gerald Wambugu, were also brought down by an elite force formed to halt the thugs' criminal activities.

This is the crime story of the three gangsters—Gerald Wambugu Munyeria, Anthony Ngugi Kanagi and Bernard Matheri Thuo—who terrorised Kenyans, particularly in Nairobi, in the 1990s.

The Violent Reign of Wanugu, Wacucu and Rasta

Wanugu, Wacucu and Rasta are easily the most notorious criminals in the country, and their stories are etched in the minds of Kenyans. The increased intensity of their crimes and daring acts, such as shootouts and standoffs with the police, resulted in the creation of a special task force mandated to bring to an end the thugs' criminal activities.
