Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Competitive Play Trailer Reveals New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Information

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have released a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, which showcases a new Pokémon and some new moves aimed at the competitive gaming community. Most notable is the identity of a brand new 'mon' Cyclizar, who will hit Pokédex on November 18th.

Released as the finale of the Pokémon World Championships in London over the past few days, the trailer is focused on combat, which makes sense given the nature of the event. In it, we see a new Pokémon, Cyclizar, which looks very reminiscent of the two main legendaries of this generation, Koraidon and Miraidon. Koraidon, the Scarlet saga, seems to be rooted in the past, while Miraidon, the Violet saga, seems very futuristic. Maybe Cyclizar represents the present. Only time will tell. In addition to Cyclizar, the trailer also revealed some new moves and items:

Move: Fall Off the Tail - Create a surrogate, then swap places with the waiting party Pokémon.
Mobile: Tera Blast - Change type when the user finishes Terastalized.
Item: Loading Dice - Makes Multistrike more likely to hit more times.
Item: Mirror Herb - Copies the opponent's stats when consumed.

This Dragon/Normal type Pokémon will have a new combat move, shedding its tail, which can create a replacement and then swap places with the waiting Pokémon. However, it wasn't the cool new ability that caught the attention of fans on Twitter, but Cyclizar's quirky recognizability.

Of particular interest, as our friends at Eurogamer have pointed out, are the motorcycle-like features of Pokémon, many of which appear to be similar to Scarlet Violet legends Koraidon and Miraidon.

Now, that's probably all a coincidence; as anyone who's played "Who's a Pokémon?" faithfully will tell you every week of their childhood, many Pokémon share similar traits, sometimes even full silhouettes. However, it is very likely that Cyclizar's "legendary" appearance hints at a larger evolutionary theory of the Scarlet Violet story - do we have the legend's pre- or even post-evolutionary state on our hands?

Fans were quick to tweet theories about the newest Pokémon in the series, and many of the ideas surrounding Cyclizar's appearance came from a different timeline than the box art legend, who seemed to represent the past (Koraidon) and the future (Miraidon) respectively.

With its transport abilities, reptilian appearance and wheeled upper body, we can certainly see a connection between Cyclizar and the new legend. There has long been speculation that the latest entry in the series would somehow tie into the concept of past versus future, and perhaps the unveiling of this new Pokémon could be our first look at how this will affect gaming legends main hint.
