KEY REASONS EMERGES AS TO WHY NEWCASTLE ARE NOW IN BOX SEAT FOR PREMIER LEAGUE STAR

Trossard has been one of the shining lights in Brighton’s team since joining from Genk in 2019. In his first season, he scored five goals and provided three assists from the wing.

Since then, the Belgian has turned things up a notch. Indeed, in the following campaign, he contributed to 10 goals, scoring five and assisting five.

He went one better last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. He has developed into one of the Seagulls’ most important assets of late.

With last season’s top goalscorer Neal Maupay heading to Everton in the summer, he has been required to do so. Trossard is on course for a fantastic return in front of goal in the current campaign.

The winger has already scored six goals and provided two assists in 11 games. That tally of goals means he is currently the joint fifth-highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

Other sides have begun to take notice, though. The likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea have reportedly registered an interest in Trossard.

They are not the only sides in Europe that have taken notice of the Belgian’s good form.

Newcastle ahead for Trossard transfer

Newcastle may be the side with the best chance of snaring the exciting Brighton star. Journalist Peter O’Rourke has highlighted one resource that the Magpies could utilise to get their man.

“I’m sure there is open dialogue between Brighton and Newcastle considering the previous deals that have gone on between the two clubs, not just Dan Ashworth but also Dan Burn as well,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“I’m sure Dan Ashworth would be hoping that his links with the club might help them in any future pursuit of Leandro Trossard.”

Indeed, earlier this year, Ashworth  swapped the Amex for St James’ Park to become the Magpies’ Sporting Director.

The relationship that he has with his former club could well help Newcastle in their pursuit of Trossard.

They have already reportedly decided they will send an offer of £25million to Brighton. Given Ashworth recently left the club, it is likely he knows how much Trossard is worth to them, so that offer may well be enough.

Trossard ready for bigger things

Brighton have actually been one of the most surprising teams in the Premier League of late. Indeed, they finished ninth last season, seven places higher than the previous campaign.

They are also currently ninth in this season’s Premier League table. While it is not all because of one man, a lot of their success can be attributed to Trossard.

Indeed, he netted a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at the beginning of October. Was it not for his performance, Brighton would likely have lost that game.

The winger’s starring role against one of the Premier League’s biggest teams shows he is ready to play at a better level. A move to a bigger side could allow him to flourish.

Newcastle are clearly on an upwards trajectory. Indeed, they are currently fourth in the Premier League, having lost just once this season.
