Inside Nairobi's Dreaded Killer Policeman Hunting Down Gangsters
Nairobi’s dreaded killer cop Hessy wa Dandora continues to hit headlines over his brutal activities in the city . The Undercover cop known to many as Hessy who usually sends chilling warning to crime suspects before killing them has been exposed as the one Sergeant Rashid Ahmed, a police officer whose name sends shivers down the spine of many families.Rashid is arguably the most feared in Nairobi’s sprawling streets of Eastleigh and Mathare neighborhoods. Rashid who has been the subject of discussion in leading extrajudicial killings insists that he is operating under the law.
“All the stories you hear being peddled about me are pure rumors being passed around by some of my colleagues envious of my effectiveness in executing my duties.
Rashid for the first time shocked the world in 2017 when he was caught on camera shooting at two unarmed men in Eastleigh. According to the video obtained from the incident which went viral online, the plainclothes police officer was seen shooting at the two as a shocked crowd watched on.
The dreaded cop pumped several bullets into one of his victims, who was a young boy before he got another gun from his colleague and sprayed additional four bullets on the helpless victim who was already on the ground.
According to witnesses, Rashid arrested Gitau and frog marched him all the way to the petrol station at around 9pm and made him kneel down . He then pumped several bullets to Gitau as he was kneeling down hence killing him on the spot .
According to post-mortem witnessed by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) it was revealed that six bullets were used to kill Gitau.
“In less than two minutes, his life was cut short in such a cruel manner,” the witness said of the April 15 incident that has renewed fear in the ghetto.
Mlango Kubwa
Rashid is also said to have killed five other victims among them a 15-year-old Ben who was boiled eggs vendor at Mlango Kubwa in January 2019.
“Rashid was a hardworking officer who was determined to wipe out criminals from Pangani jurisdiction. He did not just shoot for the sake of it, but after carrying out thorough investigations on the individuals’ backgrounds,” Starehe sub-county police commander Alice Kimeli said.
In 2019 , a Githurai 44 woman found herself living on borrowed time after the then dreaded faceless cops alleged to be behind the page Hessy wa Dandora issued her a warning. In the post by the facebook page believed to be owned by Rashid , Linar Mmbone was told that she had a few hours to surrender and hand over a pistol she is seen brandishing in one of the photos or face the consequences.
In the warning post , it was further indicated that the lady was on cross hairs and those who know her should take time to reach out to her before it is too late.
“Whether your account is deactivated or not, you have less than few hours to surrender to the nearest police station ukiwa umebeba iyo kitu: hapa Githurai 44 siyo mbali sana vile unafikiria. I know your friends are here, sympathisers are also here watching, human rights activists are also here as the witnesses. Staki baadae iwe ati Hesy sijui nini,…. U now have time to assist this lady bring back our property before things get hotter! Ni hayo 2,” read the post by Rashid popularly known as Hessy.
Rashid surviving brutal gang attack
In one shocking instance , the police officer in 2018 sustained injures after he was attacked by a gang along Juja Road. According to sources , the attack happened when Rashid was leading a team of officers to flush out four gangsters who were terrorizing residents along Juja Road .
Police report at the time revealed that one of the suspected gang member hit Rashid on his right hand with a metal bar.
“The officer fell on the ground and sustained injuries on the right hand palm, left elbow and on the right knee,” the police said.
The suspected gang members fled to Kosovo area but police believe one of them had a gun.
“The injured officer was rushed to Radiant Hospital where he was treated and discharged in fair condition,” the police said.
Escaped Death
However , Rashid also narrowly escaped death during a shootout where three suspects were shot dead. During the deadly shootout , Rashid was shot on the left thumb and was rushed to hospital where he was treated and later discharged.
Operating Above The Law
However , other police officers say Rashid Operates above the law unlike the rest of them .According to police officers working with him, not even chief inspector or his bosses dare him.
“He seems to have a very powerful person who protects him. During his stay at Pangani, he could only be questioned by the OCPD despite holding a junior rank of a sergeant. Not even the inspectors and chief inspectors who were his bosses could dare touch him,” said an officer who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue.
Several families continue to cry for justice after losing their kins in police brutality. Human rights organizations also continue to condemn extrajudicial killings done by the police .
