Google Suspends Business with Huawei! This is what it means
Google won’t be working with Huawei anymore and has suspended all business with the same company. This announcement was made on Sunday 19, May 2019 as President Trump added the company to the Chinese technology companies blacklist tray.
The future of Huawei devices won’t have access to any of the google features such as operating system (android), Google Playstore, Gmail, Google camera and other support. Worse still, they will not be able to develop any more from the android platform.
This decision is a heavy blow to the technology giant whose devices’ ‘backbone’ is simply Google.
About two months ago, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. through their head, Richard Yu Chengdong, said that they had developed their own operating system for both smartphones and computers. This he said would be used in the place of Google’s android system, just in case the U.S heightened the business tension that has been undergoing. It has finally happened!
Huawei is one of the best smart phone companies with a huge market share globally. That partially describes what number of people are worried over the ‘divorce.’ It is also a worrying situation on the stability of Huawei after Google has withdrawn their services.
Current owners of Huawei devices won’t be immediately affected but there is a possibility of future challenges, for instance, where Apps updating is concerned.
The decision is a huge setback to Huawei as a company, but it should also be a big worry to the rest of smartphone companies. This is because most of them use android systems and hence depend on google services. They probably should imagine themselves in Huawei’s current situation and hence start to find a solution even before the problem comes (for security purposes).
However, from another angle, the suspension is an opportunity for the smart phone industry to work towards complete independence. They should think of owning their own things; systems, apps and other features.
Such technology companies should now strategize on how they can support themselves without hanging on another company. This is the area where Apple beats the rest. They have an entire own framework, their systems are theirs making them the ‘right’ owners of the products.
From twitter, android gave Huawei users some assurance. See more below:
For Huawei users’ questions regarding our steps to comply w/ the recent US government actions: We assure you while we are complying with all US gov’t requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device.

The U.S. decision to deny Huawei access to U.S. technology could bite into its booming consumer-device business https://t.co/OjFpUmH7bb

If there’s anyone spying on people here, it’s Google, not huawei. They even record our conversations without our consent. I know most of people aren’t aware of this #HuaweiForever pic.twitter.com/IbIjeu4yAg

There is a moral lesson for all tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and lovers of the same. As much as you would want to pride in owning a device, it is important to think more on the software running on the same. If you find you have most of the services you are offering outsourced from outside, you have some reasons to fear. Someone somewhere can one day wake up and decide your device is operating no more.
All eyes and ears are now on Huawei. What will they do next? If they have not done it yet, may be it is the highest time they halted developing any more devices and come up with a framework of their own. It is their time to strategize on a bounce back move- something that will shake the world.
The question is, does Huawei have the said Operating system ready? If it is there, how attractive is it having come from a robust system like Huawei? All these are worrying questions, hope they worried the company first before they started the development. Otherwise, their customer niche is already bought for their devices and features of which most of them are from Google.
It is not easy to think that users will be won for a new OS if the features lowers the convenience and reliability of Huawei devices. It is indeed a real challenge for the Chinese largest smartphones vendor as they have to create something with android fully in mind.
The only hope remaining for Huawei where Google is concerned is the ability to use the android system available under the open source license which anybody can be able to use freely.
