Gachagua said the meeting held on Tuesday night was aimed at coming up with a way to collect more revenue for the country.

He assured Kenyans that the government is doing all it can to turn things around for the country.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday revealed details of President William Ruto's seven-hour meeting with the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Speaking on Tuesday, Gachagua said the meeting held on Tuesday night aimed at coming up with a way to collect more revenue for the country.

The DP was also part of the meeting.

He noted that what is currently being collected by the Treasury can only pay salaries for government employees and service debts incurred by the previous government.

"Last night the president and I sat with KRA for seven hours, we parted at midnight, to agree on how we'll collect more revenue so that we can collect about Sh3 trillion by end of the year to be able to fund our current and development budget," Gachagua said.

He assured Kenyans that the government is doing all it can to turn things around for the country.

The DP noted that it would take about two years to return Kenya on the right path.

"Don't give up all is not lost despite the fact that we have a difficult situation. We are working on it and everybody is coming along and in the fullness of time we'll turn around the economy of this country in the first two years God willing."

Gachagua spoke during an induction meeting with the 49-member education reforms task force.

The Kenya Kwanza coalition campaigned on an economic reform agenda.

Gachagua's sentiments reiterated those of their allies who have also called on Kenyans to be patient because it will take time for them to feel the policy changes being made by the Ruto administration.

"Kenyans won’t realise the impact of the policies President William Ruto has pronounced until we fully constitute a Cabinet. The hustlers will have to wait a little bit longer to feel the impact of the new government," Belgut MP Nelson Koech said on Tuesday.
