TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU believes missing Arsenal's title run-in with injury can make him a "better person".

Tomiyasu and fellow defender William Saliba face lay-offs following injuries in last week's Europa League exit against Sporting Lisbon.

But the table-topping Gunners have confirmed the Japan full-back will be out until the summer following knee surgery, whereas Saliba could be back soon after the international break.

Tomiyasu, 24, insists he will use his frustration positively.

First he re-posted a message from left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko that said: "Come back stronger brother!"

Then he stated on Instagram: "Heads up and stay positive.

"I believe that this is the opportunity to be a better person and player.

"Thank you for your warm message and support. See you soon!!!"

Tomiyasu had lost his first-choice place at right-back to Ben White this season.

But he's still racked up 31 appearances, largely because he can play on either flank.

Arsenal released a statement saying: "Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.

"Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season.

"Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season."
