Azimio leader Raila Odinga has said the price of fuel will this week hit a record high again this.

Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting at Jevanjee gardens where he had a date with Bunge la Mwananchi, Raila faulted the current regime of President Wiliam Ruto for lifting subsidies.

Raila defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta saying he knew how to protect Kenyans adding that Ruto has failed to do so for the few days he has been in office.

"Every time they were blaming Uhuru but he was doing what other heads of state were doing worldwide. Uhuru protected Kenyans from the effects of the Russia and Ukraine wars. But now they have said that it is unsustainable, this week the price of fuel will go up again," Raila said.

Raila said that President William Ruto had promised to lower the cost of fuel but instead it has gone up.

This is after Ruto removed the fuel subsidy in September leading to a litre of petrol retailing at Sh179 up from Sh159, representing a 12 percent increase.

According to Ruto, the government had spent Sh144 billion on the fuel subsidy in the last year with Sh75 billion still owed to the oil marketers.

He said if the subsidy had not been removed, Kenya was about to start facing severe fuel shortages.
