With UEFA Euro 2020 underway, football fans have missed some of the most expensive players whose countries did not qualify for the tournament or were left out by their coaches.

either going through rehabilitation or are already on the sideline.

However, while we may get to witness the best players go head-to-head

in the month-long football tournament, there will be some stars missing

either because of an injury, disappointing season or their manager doesn’t

fancy them.

Jan Oblak

Jan Oblak, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper since 2014, is regarded as one of

the world’s best football players with a valuation of about 100 million

Euro. As much as he’s regarded one of the world’s best shot-stoppers, he

failed to qualify with Slovenia, which means he won’t be part of the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament this year.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United fans were angry when they heard that one of their favorite star players, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, won’t feature in the UEFA Euro 2020 games. Wan-Bissaka wasn’t selected despite Gareth Southgate

picking four right-backs for his squad, and now finds himself behind the likes of Reece James, Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier.

He wasn’t even selected for the provisional group, yet he’s been long hailed for his defensive qualities.

Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood is another Manchester United favorite who won’t play in the UEFA Euro 2020.

Greenwood pulled out of the provisional squad owing to a pre-existing

injury, which also kept him out of the under 21 European Championship.

Greenwood was part of the initial 33-man squad that Southgate selected

for the tournament, but a United statement said his appearances were

carefully managed to maintain his availability through the Premier League

and Europa League 2020/21 schedules.

Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos, Spain’s captain has also been left out of the UEFA Euro 2020 squad by Luis Enrique. The captain has struggled with injuries this season, which led to Enrique’s decision to leave him out. Ramos’ season at Real madrid has been blighted by injury despite having won the last of his 180 caps in March.

Virgil van Dijk

Dutch captain, Van Dijk has also confirmed that he won’t be playing for the team at the UEFA Euro 2020.

Since October 2020, Dijk has not played owing to a knee ligament injury,which led to his decision to continue his rehabilitation this season. Dijk

confirmed he won’t be playing for the Dutch side at the UEFA Euro 2020

tournament and is at peace with his decision even as he looks to return

from the injury in time for the start of the next season.

The 29-year-old Liverpool defender is instead targeting a return to club action with Liverpool in good time for the 2021/22 campaign.

Jerome Boateng

Jerome Boateng, who plays centre-back for Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, is another star player who will be missing in the UEFA Euro 2020 matches.

The professional footballer was among the players who Joachim Low

exiled as Germany build-up for the premier international competition.

Boateng is a regular starter for his Bundesliga club, but he didn’t feature in the national side since 2018.

Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy will miss out on the Euro 2020 tournament too. The French defender has also been suffering injuries, which means he had to be ruled out for the France squad this season. The injury, called

tibial periostitis, is caused by inflammation and irritation of tendons,

muscles and bones of the lower leg. He was Real’s first choice left back,

but since he had shin splints, coach Zinedine Zidane had to leave him out

for the rest of the season.

Miralem Pjanic

In 2008, Miralem Pjanic switched to his country of birth, but before that,

he represented Luxembourg at the youth level.

The Barcelona star player has appeared at a World Cup for Bosnia, but

both his Herzegovina and Bosnia side didn’t make the cut for the UEFA

Euro 2020 tournament, meaning he won’t feature in any of the matches.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is one of the fascinating players to watch any day, but

since Serbia was knocked Norway out of qualification, he won’t appear in

the tournament. The striker, who is considered one of the best players globally and is worth 99 million pounds, has six goals in 10 games for Norway.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, a midfielder for Lazio, had the chance to impress

at the UEFA Euro 2020, but he lost the chance when his team lost with a

penalty shootout defeat to Scotland. The player, who is worth 63 million pounds, has long been tipped to leave the Serie A club and sign for

Chelsea and Manchester United, couldn’t lead his team past Scotland,

which kept him out of the squad for the tournament this June.
